![]() ![]() Perhaps if this were rebranded as a Disney only show and tickets were 25-75 dollars that would be reasonable, but labeled as a Cirque show and at the price they are charging, this fell well short of the mark. The Disney elements (random animations, random Disney music themes, and flat Disney jokes) felt forced and did not assist in moving the story forward. I have never seen a CDS show that has not been at least close to sold out. Tickets prices were outrageously expensive and It was very disappointing to the see the theater only 1/2 full. Overall: This show did not meet our hopes or expectations for a Disney and Cirque collaboration. (Drummer, violinist, guitarist, cellist/bassist). Drawn to life featured mostly pre-recorded tracks and only four live musicians. La Nouba for instance had a large band as well as featured vocalists that truly help carry the emotion and weight of the show. One of my favorite things about CDS shows are the live performers. Performers were literally coaxing the audience to applaud because the majority of the audience didn’t know when to clap. It dictates pacing and also lets the audience know when to applaud. Music direction is one of the most important parts of a CDS show. shoving Disney music themes down our throats when they did not do anything to carry the story or better the pacing, but hey……we need to get those warm nostalgia feelings right?). I believe it was Disney’s music direction that caused much of the issues with the music (I.e. Benoît IS CDS and has been both a music director and composer with them for decades. I do not blame the composer here, as the music was written by Benoît Jutras (La Nouba, O, Mystère, Quidam). The amalgamation of “Disney-esque” music and the intertwined CDS style of music didn’t quite fit the show, were a bit noodly, and lacked direction and excitement. There were a few numbers that paid a bit of an homage to the CDS vibe and those were great. We were far from impressed with the music in this show. Music: The music of CDS shows is one of the most memorable things about a Cirque show. (Although, we did observe several dropped stunts and miscues, which we don’t typically see). ![]() Top notch performers who are dedicated to their craft and do absolutely death defying stunts and incredible acrobatics. Performers: The cast of Drawn to Life were, as in most CDS shows, incredible. I suppose if this was not labeled as a CDS show, we would not have been so dissatisfied, but as it is a CDS show, we do expect a certain level of polish, excitement, and innovation that this show failed to deliver. We did seem to be missing several acts from our show tonight that were mentioned in other reviews (Juggler, and stilt walkers), so I am not entirely sure where they would have fit into the show. ![]() I found myself getting quite bored and restless as there were long stretches of time where Cirque things were not happening. The show feels very flat, disjointed, and has a serious pacing problem. It was like “Disney” created a story concept and then realized they forgot to put the Cirque part of the show in. Story Concept: The theme of animation COULD be a fantastic concept for a CDS show and there were a few elements that worked extremely well, but overall the story/concept fell short here. I will break my review down into sections to help people further understand my 2 star rating. ![]() This show was no where near as fun, captivating, or memorable as La Nouba or any CDS show for that matter. We were sad when La Nouba closed but we were excited to see the new Drawn to Life show and finally got the chance this December. My wife and I are huge fans of Cirque Du Soleil (CDS) and have seen over ten different shows! Growing up in Orlando we absolutely LOVED the original La Nouba show that was at this venue. ![]()
